The grassroots climate movement is complex yet strong. Hundreds of organizations, teams, and movements litter the world, each with their own project, goals, backgrounds, and connections. In the modern age, a single individual can find themselves involved in up to a dozen of said organizations at a single time. DARC Earth acknowledges this, and so does not promote a single, mainstreamed movement, project, nor goal. Instead, DARC Earth serves as a formal, organized, and institutional support for smaller Rochester-based climate activism, advocacy, and education that requires a legal, reputational, or logistical backbone. DARC Earth enables, providing widespread and non-exclusive support. DARC Earth does not provide services and so expects no payment, wishing only to support the general environmental movement of the Rochester area.
DARC Earth Ltd is a non-profit organization based in Rochester, New York, devoted to supporting the climate movement in the Rochester area and New York state. Notable actions include supporting the 2024 Rochester City Climate March and running a multi-week Nature Connection Summer Camp for disadvantaged Rochester students.
The specific objectives and purpose of DARC Earth, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, is to catalyze, organize, and analyze climate activism, including but not limited to: promoting awareness and understanding of climate change and its impacts; fundraising from private donors for programming pursuant to the mission of DARC Earth; supporting community, regional, national, and global initiatives addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainability; advocating and lobbying for responsible policy environmental policy at local, national, and international levels; organizing events to reverse the effects of climate change, such as community cleanups, plantings, and other environmental restoration activities. Through these endeavors, DARC Earth seeks to contribute to the greater well-being of the global environment and work towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
One of the reasons that DARC Earth was founded was to support the President, Devlin Rosen-Carole, in some of their diverse forms of climate advocacy with various youth groups. The group consists of the Rosen-Carole and Braitsch families, and started extremely informally. Only as Devlin became more serious about climate advocacy and ran in to more and more situations that required a formal (legal) organization did DARC Earth incorporate and establish itself. The organization quickly found itself involved in several projects, groups, and movements, mostly those that Devlin participated in. Up until 2024, DARC Earth did not act in a consolidated, united way. Then, as it became clear that a greater impact could be had with a more united effort, DARC Earth changed its approach to activism, hosting its first Nature Connection summer camp with Horizon's at Harley (see post). Since then, DARC Earth has acted more in harmony, and the successes of DARC Earth are more attributable to the group as opposed to a single board member (Devlin).
